Exploring the role of arts and culture in the creative industries

Scott Dickinson and Fiona Tuck

The case studies explore partnerships and alliances, the transfer of skills and staff, and the trading of goods and services between organisations in the arts and culture sector and businesses in the creative industries sector.

Subjects include the gaming industry’s relationship with artists, both as staff and as specialist freelancers, and its use of established intellectual property to develop games; the role of artists and directors in brand development and product launches, where clients wish to take, and be seen to take, creative risks; and the role of artists in product and service design.

The assignment is part of the Arts Council’s research programme and will inform the development of the Arts Council’s next 10-year strategy, which will take account of the changed policy and funding environment for the arts.
